Click the button below to go to this website for the best free print out paper toys I've ever. They are gorgeous and very culturally relevant! There were fun things to talk about such as heroes in Indonesia vs heroes in Australia such as Gatot Kaca, or Ondel Ondel, or a model of Monas, or primary school vs high school characters, which was great for talking about clothing with my Year 6s.
Having said this, I have tried making these in the past and actually failed because the students found it tricky to finish in one lesson, and became frustrated as there was a lack of explicit instructions.
So my advice is:
1. Complete one doll in pairs
2. Prime their brains for the challenge; "I want to see how well your problem solving skills as well as your team work skills. You will only be able to use glue and scissors. You will get one final piece of sticky tape at the end. The best will win 5 house points!"
I also did a similar task for Year 5s, but we focused on recreating a little kaki-lima (food cart).
The kids really enjoyed this.
