I am currently teaching Year 5s the Makanan topic (my favourite and the kids!). The lesson objective was to describe how something tastes. So I had a pack of Garuda Coated peanuts, and gave out all students 2 peanuts. The students then made their own "reaction videos" in Photobooth using the following language:
Nama saya... Saya lapar. Ini kacang.
Bagaimana rasanya?
Rasanya enak/kurang enak/pedas/asin/asam.
What is a "vIdeo reakasi"?
I found this out because of a very entertaining new Youtuber called Han Yoo Ra. She is a Korean person living in Indonesia, and speaks Indonesian fluently (like Sasha Stevenson). She worked in collaboration with Skinny Indonesian 24, and made this hilarious video trying some truly spicy Korean food. It's way too fast for any of my students in any year level, and so much language switching, but worth showing a minute or two to the kids for "hooking" the kids in. It's great to see more diverse nations getting into Indonesian as well!
For the weaker students, it would be helpful if I scaffolded by writing the script on a sheet for them to read, and ultimately record outside as there was alot of background noise for students recording inside the classroom.
It was a language practice for the weak students, but quite significant language use for the strong students. For example, I had one student exclaim organically; "BAGUS BAGUS BAGUS. Saya suka."
So to follow up this task, I will be having more food to taste next week for the kids. Or even do the exact same task with a different food.
