Today's article, "Closing the Vocabulary Gap", has pointed out three basic strategies for helping students to retain vocabulary. As a quick outline, it states that pronunciation, playing charades and writing are powerful for enhancing students' learning. On a personal level, I believe I have been underestimating "pronunciation" as a technique, and reading this following quote was very enlightening.
Pronunciation may seem trivial, but it has a positive physical implication; saying a word actually imprints it on the muscles of the ear and jaw. This is known as kinesthetic learning and should not be overlooked. Beyond muscle memory, saying a word in your own voice can be a first step toward making it your own.
I highly recommend any language teacher to follow this website, because I am always learning something new!
