I find mixing in co-operative learning pedagogies in languages is important, because a key concept that students need to learn is communication, and building relationships through interaction and language. Practicing co-operation enhances the "feeling safe" factor for students. It enhances their confidence in using the language, and understand that making mistakes is all part of the process!
